Whiplash is a neck injury caused by sudden, forceful movement, commonly from car accidents. Other causes can be sports injuries, falls, or concussions. It can lead to pain, stiffness, headaches, and reduced range of motion.
Whiplash is primarily a soft tissue injury that can affect the muscles, ligaments, discs, and nerves in the neck (cervical spine). The sudden and extreme motion pushes the neck structures beyond their normal range of motion, leading to stretching or tearing.
Common symptoms are neck pain and stiffness, loss of range of motion, headaches at the base of the skull, tenderness of the shoulders, tingling or numbness in the arms and hands, dizziness or vertigo, and fatigue.
Symptoms may not appear immediately; they often develop within 24 to 48 hours after the injury. While most people recover within a few weeks, some individuals may experience persistent pain and other complications for months or even years. If you have been involved in a car accident you should get treatment immediately.
Early intervention is important to prevent long-term complications. Our care plans are designed to support recovery and help patients return to normal activity safely.
